The DMSC’s latest efforts have kept the interests of the digital metrology industry in mind to produce this newly-approved ANSI standard.

QIF, or the Quality Information Framework, is the XML framework that has become the standard for computer-aided quality measurement systems throughout the CAD/MBD industry. The latest 3.0 version is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard and, after submission, was very quickly approved. Improvements to PMI modeling were made to support common CAD systems annotations from prominent tools such as SolidWorks, PTC Creo, NX, and CATIA. Capvidia was proud to bring their CAD expertise to help guide these modeling changes to support advanced MBD workflows.

Capvidia’s Director of Business Development, Daniel Campbell, longtime Chair of ANSI QIF’s working groups and also a Member of the DSMC’s Board of Directors, was one of the industry representatives who contributed to the QIF 3.0 update. He says: “Capvidia has been honored to contribute to the QIF effort over the past many years. It is exciting to watch industry begin to use QIF as the platform for their Model Based Enterprise (MBE) implementation. We are proud to provide the best tools for Semantic PMI and QIF authoring on the market, and we are excited to see how MBE continues to unfold in modern industry.”

Speaking on the impact that QIF 3.0 will have on the dimensional metrology industry, Curtis Brown, President of DMSC, commented that “this QIF data interoperability standard can realize downstream process automation and upstream data traceability that will enable manufacturing quality to become a key enabler for a model-based enterprise.”

QIF can be easily integrated with Web/Internet applications, and unlike other existing standards, there is no competence barrier standing in the way for industry to adopt QIF. All discrete manufacturing industries now have a standard platform that ensures quality while minimizing costs and making processes more transparent.
