LEUVEN, Belgium, July 06, 2007 - Capvidia is proud to announce the release of a new bi-directional STEP (ISO 10303-21, AP 203, 214) translator. It has been developed to meet the new and ever changing requirements for Data Translation, Model Quality Checking, CAD Validation, and Long Term Archiving. This new STEP translator is available in all Capvidia products or as a set of libraries (.dll) with an API easy to integrate into third part applications.

Improved STEP Translation
 
The new STEP translator has been added to existing data translation products 3DTransVidia and FormatWorks (Certified Gold Product for SolidWorks). STEP files that are problematic for other CAD systems can now be correctly translated with the Capvidia STEP translator.

The unique features of the Capvidia STEP translator include:

• Entity Identification (ID) Tracking – A correspondence map of an object’s ID keeps the association between initial and translated model entities, which is important for maintaining PLM information.
• Full Assembly Structure Control – Supports all variations of STEP assembly representation.
• Preservation of Original Entity Attributes – Attributes of parts, such as color, are maintained for faces and edges through the translation process.
• Integrated Repair & Healing - Includes Capvidia’s powerful repair-healing technology that automatically verifies and corrects more than 70 typical geometric and topological inconsistencies. 

The Capvidia STEP translator is available as:

An extension to Capvidia products (3DTransVidia) and SolidWork’s add-in (FormatWorks).
A set of libraries (.dll) for third part applications. The API is fully documented and easy to integrate.
 
Capvidia-EMPT Long Term Archiving with STEP EN 9300 (ISO 103030-21). Capvidia’s STEP translator is an essential component of a joint Capvidia-EPMT solution for long-term archiving of 3D CAD data for the aerospace industry. The STEP translator is integrated within the EDMmodelServer for 3D CAD models and PLM data supporting the EN 9300 standard (LOTAR project) for archiving 3D CAD models. The EDMmodelServer also supports 3D CAD verification and quality assessment based on Capvidia’s proprietary 3DTransVidia technology.
