FlightSafety Exports CATIA to SolidWorks with 3DTransVidiaLEUVEN, Belgium, May 11, 2006 - FlightSafety International has selected Capvidia’s 3DTransVidia/SW product to translate large parts and assemblies from CATIA V5 into SolidWorks. 3DTransVidia/SW enables FlightSafety International to quickly translate large CATIA models and simplify them before transferring them to SolidWorks. FlightSafety International’s primary focus is the training of aviation professionals for proficiency in the safe and effective operation of all types of aircraft. The company’s training involves the use of advanced simulators that replicate with qualified accuracy the experience of flying an aircraft. FlightSafety International uses 3DTransVidia to translate CATIA V5 parts and assemblies of aircraft cockpits into SolidWorks. CATIA models are opened quickly and the whole model is visible. Required parts and sub assemblies are then selected and then transferred to SolidWorks. All unnecessary parts are left behind. This provides an optimal model for use in SolidWorks where FlightSafety International designs controls based on the cockpit geometry. An intelligent batch translator is also used to translate large numbers of parts automatically.
“We attempted to use other translators, but 3DTransVidia is the first product that was able to translate the critical cockpit information from CATIA V5 into SolidWorks. Our assemblies are extremely large and 3DTransVidia allows us to open these assemblies and then transfer to SolidWorks the information we need. The translation is also much cleaner than what we had been getting”, said Bobby Henry, Computer Aided Engineering Support Group Leader of FlightSafety International. “This solution has enabled us to meet our deadlines and complete time sensitive projects”. 3DTransVidia/SW is designed to import large models to SolidWorks. The process is optimal, straightforward and easy. The reading and translation of CATIA parts is fully controlled by 3D TransVidia/SW and runs independently from SolidWorks. CATIA models are analyzed and automatically repaired to internal requirements of the SolidWorks kernel. Prior to SolidWorks translation the part is visualized and can be examined in 3D TransVidia/SW. The user can choose to translate the entire model or individual parts (ref. points, edges, faces, solids, assemblies) for further design work in SolidWorks. “SolidWorks users who work with CATIA data often find themselves getting very large CATIA files and need a way to quickly and correctly translate the data. Most of the data is not necessary and only adds to the complexity and time needed to get this data into SolidWorks.” said Lyle Fischer, technical marketing director for Capvidia. “With 3DTransVidia, they have the possibility to quickly open and simplify the data before sending it to SolidWorks.”
About FlightSafety International FlightSafety International is the world’s largest provider of aviation services, training over 75,000 pilots annually at 42 learning centers in the U.S., Canada, France, and the U.K. Founded in 1951 by A. L. Ueltschi, Flight Safety is dedicated to the promotion of aviation safety by providing the highest quality training for aviation professionals. FlightSafety International is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. FlightSafety International designs, manufacturers and supports full flight simulators exceeding the most rigorous requirements of aviation certifying authorities. FlightSafety International has produced nearly 500 flight simulators, 47 in 2005 alone and over 40 already scheduled for 2006. These devices are fielded world-wide and used by American military, foreign military, international airlines as well as FlightSafety International itself. FlightSafety International's latest technological development is the successful implementation of a 6 degree-of-freedom, purely electric motion base, both 60” and 36” stroke and integrated electric control loading system qualified for training using Level D standards.
