New FormatWorks 2009 brings PMI CATIA V5, Pro/E and UG to SolidWorks

SolidWorks Certified Gold ProductLEUVEN, Belgium, January 16, 2009 - Capvidia announces release of FormatWorks 2009 Professional extension supporting “Product Manufacturing Information” (PMI) defined in native CATIA V5, Pro/E and UGX data. The PMI includes “Functional Tolerance Annotation” (FTA) and "Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance” (GDT) information. PMI provides access to dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes, product manufacturing notes, etc. FormatWorks 2009 Professional supports PMI data stored with 3D CAD models in the following native formats: CATIA V5, Pro/E and UGX. The PMI information becomes now available for SolidWorks users working with imported native CAD data.

Capvidia´s PMI implementation includes:

  • Display model views and associated PMI data
  • Dimensions
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
  • Functional Tolerance and Annotation (FT&A)

“The PMI support has been requested by our FormatWorks customers for already some time. We are glad to be able to finally deliver this essential functionality” comments Lyle Fischer of Capvidia North America.

Working with native 3D models requires more than 3D geometry. The information associated with the design defining the “process” a 3D model is going to be submitted to, is equally essential in applications such as CAM, mould and fixture design. Previously the PMI information was a part of technical 2D drawing describing the technological and manufacturing processes. A 3D solid provides editable design information, but when combined with the PMI it gives full information traditionally captured in 2D drawings.
